E-governance and Bangladesh

Sayem Mahmud: E-governance (short for electronic governance) involves the use of information and communication technology and its newest application by the government for the provision of information and e services to the citizens of the country.clearly speaking e-governance can be referred as the uses and applications of ICT in public administration to conduct processes to manage data and information to enhance public service delivery for empowerment of the citizens.

The slogan of digital Bangladesh of the government of Bangladesh has a special significance for e-governance for national development. In spite of several bottlenecks and limitations works are in progress for realization of e-governance for all the areas of administration.

The nation with 165 million mobile users and 103 million internet users as of June 2020 enjoys the fruits of e-governance in the numerous areas of activities.The government of Bangladesh with the help of its vast population moves forward quickly in the light of digitalization. As of the 2020 report by UN government development index (EGDI) conducted by the United Nations department of economic and social affairs (UNDESA) every two years. Bangladesh rank 115 out of 193 countries scoring .486 in the latest survey. The country has advanced 35 steps since 2012 survey.

Use of e-governance make public administration first and effective. Providing better services and respond to the demands of transparency and accountability.it can help the government to go green by effective management of natural resources aiding sustainability to the environment. E-governance stimulate economic growth and promote social inclusion of disabled and vulnerable sections of society.E- governance can provide benefits of the form of new employment better health, better education, knowledge sharing, skill development and capacity building for sustainable development. Quick and first e-service eliminate middlemen that saves both money and time. without such online services our cities and towns would have been turned into more difficult places to live and the transport services would have been impossible to manage.

With the help of our services the people from the remote area can connect the top level service providers being at The home. The services available and mostly used in Bangladesh are online admission, publication of result, registration for jobs, registration for pilgrimage, delivery of official mails, online submission of tax ,bill payment and e-passports are appeasing vastly in Bangladesh for years.

The govt so far opens more than 8k village post office , 5 hundred upazila and 64 zila turned into e-center to reach the very bottom of the village. Tele medicine, video conferencing for treatment, video conferencing for administrative activities are the example of govt services available for the rural Bangladesh.
